The IT Girl

The IT Girl

Hello my fellow readers,

I’m so pumped about today’s post because it is straight coming from… drum roll… New York FASHION WEEK! I’m so happy that this year, the #NYFW has fallen on the same week as my February break from school, which means that I can go to the Lincoln Center and shoot street style! Street style is something that has always caught my eye because I grew up with my mother being obsessed with fashion magazines, and then she, as well as me, has developed a strong eternal love for Tommy Ton, Anna Dello Russo, Miroslava Duma, and Carine Roitfeld. Although only one of the people I have listed is a street style photographer, all of them still have had an input in my looks and what I like and wear.

The idea of fashion week has always excited me, however, I have never gotten a chance to experience it until 2013. I was a very lucky girl because my aunt worked as a Mercedes-Benz representative during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and I have asked her if I can, for one day and by any chance, witness what it is like: the inside of fashion week. To me, especially at the time, seemed so wild and crazy to be able to go and see what all of the buzz was about. I still remember how I was getting ready for that Sunday: planned my hair out a week in advance, planned my outfit two weeks in advance. It seemed to be a miracle, a dream that I couldn’t believe finally has come true. However, when I got inside of the fashion pavilion, I was astonished. I loved it, but I was still skeptical about it because it was crazy! So many different, amazing, stylish, and splendid individuals everywhere, yet, it was scary… At some point I thought why should I even think of working in fashion because if I don’t like fashion week, then why should I even think about going into fashion business?

Yet, it was just one of those moments when you experience confusion and astonishment all at the same time. One thing that I’ve just realized is that I have started this blog 5 months after I was able to witness all this fashion-craze, and I’m so glad I did. So, realizing that I have the ability to leave my apartment and take street style photos, I did! I usually get inspired by the street style, so for me the ability to shoot various people was beyond magnificent. Every time I see a Fashionista walk by, I feel a breath of fresh air because the inspiration flows from every corner of this wonderful atmosphere. Fortunately, fashion week is not finished, so I’ll try to go as often as I can, and by the end of this week, expect a STREET STYLE post!

As a tribute to those courageous individuals who dress to express, I have decided to be brave enough, go out there, and actually dress up myself. It might or might not be a surprise to you, but I’m fairly shy when it comes to dressing on the daily basis. With school, extracurriculars, and anything in-between, I tend to hide myself at times and make myself look more casual and ordinary. But the weekends and fashion weeks are those few chances where I actually wear what I want, love, and feel that expresses me the most. This is actually not the most unusual outfit, however, it is still chic, fashion-week, and freezing-cold appropriate.
