New Girl

New Girl

Hello my fellow readers,

dsc_0457

Fall has finally filled the atmosphere in New York City, and the nature is inevitably keeping up with it. As the temperatures drop and the layers add on, change seems to be occurring not just in nature, but in people, too.

If you’re anything like me-constantly looking for something to change, develop, of evolve, whether in you’re closet or in life-you’re most likely progressing with the seasons. You’re changing your hair, your clothes, your apartment decorations, however, you’re changing and that’s what I’ve been doing as well.

In my previous article, I’ve mentioned how I go to a fashion school, where there’s an overwhelming presence of individuals; true individuals for that matter, who have a strong sense of self and who know that their presence and style are just as unique s it looks. This observation of one has got me thinking about the various ways I could change myself, and this time, I’m shockingly not just referring to clothing.

Change can be positive or negative, depending on how you achieve it and the way you perceive it, however, I am aiming for the brighter aspects of it. I’ve been trying to read more-newspapers, books, websites, blogs-but, I’ve also been improving other aspects of my life as well. Whether it’s the little things, such as your clothing or your apartment decorations, or the big things, such as your attitude and mentality, change is important because it reflects who you are at that particular moment. It does display what you’re trying to become, however and most importantly, it reflects at which stage you are in in your life at this moment.

I’ve previously stated this and I’ll state it again: one thing fashion school has taught me thus far is how to be bold and own it, rather than be afraid of it. It taught me that letting go of opinions of others-which always has been a grand concern to me, believe it or not, is never going to be easy, but it will be liberating once you have done so. If you have been, or currently are in the situation where you feel as if opinions of others are shutting down your own mindset at times, picture this: you are tired, you are going home fro, work, and when you finally get to your cozy home, you turn on the lights and you see a mirror. You see your reflection and you look yourself in the eyes. Now, ask yourself: Are you happy with the person you’re seeing in the mirror?

As dramatic as this post has become, it reflects this outfit. Yes, I would have worn something like this before coming to the realization that I have just shared with you, however, if I would be shooting an outfit beforehand, I would never be able to stand still in public when people would look (funny, how photos fool you?). I would always tell my photographer to wait before everybody passes because I was worrying about the opinions of others, however, as the seasons and surroundings are changing, so am I, and so is my mindset, thus I am a “New Girl”.
